The 16K goal was backed! Thanks a lot soldiers! So an exclusive “Survivor Mode” scenario will be added to the Check and Mate book, which will grow the size of the book a bit. 

Hey, a few hours left! So let’s see if we can reach 17K and we'll add an exclusive archetype and a very special alien NPC, a special tribute to Fallen Skies, to this Check and Mate book.

Greeting officers and survivors, and welcome to our new recruits (200 backers! Huzzah!)

Thanks to you all, we’re *that* close to unlocking the Darkest Hours sourcebook. With a bit more than a day before the end of the campaign, everything is still possible.

So keep spreading the word, boosting the signal, and showing how much First Contact rocks!

By the way, we couldn't NOT talk about some upcoming releases that can serve as sources of inspiration for your game sessions.

The Darkest Hour is upon us…

Greetings again everyone,

This has been quite an eventful day to say the least. We’ve passed the 200-backer mark (our warmest welcome to our new Global Defense recruits), and we’ve also unlocked the Darkest Hour sourcebook thanks to your incredible support! Thank you so much soldiers!

Just as a reminder, this beautifully illustrated, exclusive full-color sourcebook (70 pages+) + PDF will be added to the following Reward Tiers at no extra cost: Taccom soldier bundle, Taccom officer bundle, Stratcom officer bundle and Ghost Wolf Officer Bundle. The Army volunteer bundle will receive the PDF version.

A new stretch goal

With 30 hours left before our campaign concludes, we want to make sure that your ongoing efforts to make this campaign a success are rewarded. This is why we’ve decided to create a new stretch goal at €16,000. 

If we hit this mark, an exclusive “Survivor Mode” scenario will be added to the Check and Mate book, which will grow the size of the book a bit. So let’s see how far we can push this campaign and finish with a blast!

Greetings folks,

We really hope we can unlock the Darkest Hour Stretch Goal before the end of our campaign as we really look forward to proposing you several fantastic gaming options for First Contact.

The screen is offered for free to every backer (in pdf for the electronic format backers and in print for the print version backers). This is with no additional shipping fees of course. When unlocked, the Darkest Hour sourcebook will be available in print for free and with no additional shipping fees for the backers with the appropriate Reward Tier.

We have a bit more than two days to go, and everything is still possible! So please, help us spread the word now more than ever so that our campaign is more successful than what it already is!

Now, some more information about the story:

Goliath Patrol

“We’ve back again, and this is Catherine Thomas talking with Major McAlister from Global Defence here at Observation post 27. Just before the break we were getting some interesting pictures. So interesting in fact, Major McAlister has had to issue an alert.”

“Well, I should say is this is simply standard procedure for any alien sighting. We need main base to be aware they might need to get troops to this area quickly.”

“But, you were telling me this is not one of the usual patrols.”

“No indeed. Most patrols are groups of around four to six Chandra. They take a patrol route past and weave their way back into the city. Out here the patrols still don’t get very close at all to our perimeter.”

“But what we’re seeing here is a little different.”

“Yes, this is quite rare, but not unknown. It’s a single Chandra, but a heavily armed one.” “It seems to be nearer than you were saying the other patrols travel.”

“No, it’s actually just a lot bigger. We call these Chandra ‘Goliaths’. They are basically portable weapons platforms, and they stand around twice the height of any other Chandra.”

“So we don’t want to be too close. It’s making me nervous even at this distance.” “Absolutely, and you’re right to be nervous. They are heavily armed and very dangerous. But they usually take the same route past as other patrols.”

“Is is carrying a weapon there? I can’t quite see.”

“From what we know the weapons are grafted onto its body. One of the arms is, essentially, a canon.”

“Is it turning towards us there?”

“Yes, I think we should step back a bit here. Soldier, take position.”

“That looks like it’s coming towards us now.”

“Yes, that is unusual. Comms officer! Call that in. I think we should move the civilians back.”

“Can you get us a better picture Geoff?”

“Ms Thomas, I believe you and your team should withdraw.”

“It’s still a little way away Major.” “Yes, but it is approaching, and its weapons may be coming into range.”

“It’s opening fire sir!”

“Oh God, Geoff, are you ok? Geoff?!”

“Take position, return fire.”

“Where are those reinforcements?”

“Dear Jesus it’s firing again”

“Evacuate, everybody move!”

With a bit more than €1,500 to go and four days left to unlock the Darkest Hour Sourcebook, we’d like to remind you that all backers will already receive the GM screen for free - either in electronic or in print version depending on your pledge Reward Tier. 

In Check and Mate, you will find additional rules for martial arts, training, drugs and addiction, new archetypes, and the Check and Mate scenario, an investigation-oriented adventure that will make your players dread the Chandra even more.

Regarding The Darkest Hour, we’re almost there and we need your help more than ever to reach this stretch goal, which will be added for free to the Taccom soldier bundle, Taccom officer bundle, Stratcom officer bundle, Ghost Wolf Officer bundle, and the Army volunteer bundle- either in electronic or in print version depending on your pledge Reward Tier.

The Darkest Hour contains, among other things, some additional rules, but also base management, technology development, new insights on the Chandra menace and new Chandra NPCs, new archetypes, plus two adventures.
